The mission of the Guidance Department at Scituate High School is to provide counseling services to students and families on educational, vocational, and personal matters. Under this umbrella, the school counselors counsel, consult, coordinate, and collaborate with students, parents, and school staff to support (1) personal growth and healthy development of the student, (2), high school academic planning and achievement, and (3) post-secondary planning.
Individual conferences are scheduled with each student yearly, along with small group meetings to discuss student interests, abilities, course selections, educational and vocational opportunities, and personal or social concerns.
Throughout the year, the Guidance Staff conducts programs for parents to assist their students in transitioning to the high school and post-secondary planning. Evening presentations are held regarding the college selection and admission process, as well as the financial aid process. Meetings with college admissions representatives are coordinated through the Guidance Department throughout the fall for all junior and senior students. Counselors meet regularly with their students, individually and in groups to assist them with all post-secondary planning.
The Guidance Department also provides informational services, materials, and important internet links for students and parents via our comprehensive website. The Guidance Suite contains a myriad of guidance-related information that students can pursue at their leisure. Materials available include school and college catalogues; employment, vocational and occupational information; scholarship and financial aid booklets; armed services brochures; and reference information regarding College Board Testing (PSAT, SAT, SAT II, AP) and the American College Testing Program (ACT). A college and career section is also maintained in the school library.
