Hatherly School Mission:
The mission of Hatherly School is to promote serious learning in a supportive
and caring environment. This learning results in the development and mastery
of communication and literacy skills which allow students to express their
thoughts and share the thoughts of others. Our math curriculum emphasizes
not only computational skills but also the ability to apply mathematical
reasoning to problem solving situations. Through a comprehensive Science
and Social Science curriculum, Hatherly students are encouraged to investigate
and understand their physical and social environment. Character education
encourages our students to be contributing and constructive members of their
community, possessing the values and conflict resolution skills required
by our global society.
Hatherly Elementary School
Together We Make Our School A Success
Hatherly
is a vibrant learning community serving students in kindergarten
through grade six. At Hatherly, we treasure the belief that wonder is
the beginning of wisdom. We understand that our purpose is to cultivate
this belief in all students through a comprehensive curriculum that
promotes individual growth and success in both the academic and social
realms. Further, we value the importance of a solid partnership between
home and school in which success is realized when open communication
between students, teachers, and parents is embraced.
Hatherly
maintains high-quality teaching and learning through a strong
interdisciplinary curriculum in which subjects and skills are
integrated and embedded through hands-on activities, inquiry-based
instructions, and rich and multi-faceted projects. We offer an
academically rigorous curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum
Frameworks, which focuses on achieving competence in all the areas of
reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts.
Hatherly
supports an inclusive philosophy of learning, offering heterogeneous
classes, flexible instructional groups, and support services which are
designed to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles.
Classroom teachers collaborate in grade level teams to develop
curriculum, share instruction strategies, plan assessments, and review
current research. Additionally, specialists work closely with classroom
teachers to provide related services in Special Education, Remedial
Reading, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational and Physical Therapy
and Adaptive Physical Education. Students also receive specialized
instruction in Art, Music, and Physical Education on a weekly basis. As
well, Hatherly prides itself in preparing technologically proficient
students who are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the
21st century. Our MacIntosh Curriculum Lab houses a total of 25 I MAC
computers, which all students have access to during their scheduled
classroom times and throughout the week. Every classroom also has
MacIntosh computers which offer opportunities for further practice,
integration and advancement with our technology curriculum. Hatherly
recognizes our responsibility in preparing students who are ready for
the challenges of an ever-changing pluralistic society. Therefore,
Character Education is strongly emphasized through the socio-emotional
curriculum of the Open Circle School Competency Program and our
Guidance Department’s Conflict Resolution Program. These core values
are reinforced throughout the daily life at Hatherly.
Hatherly
benefits from an active parental community involved in our Parent
Teacher Organization and School Council. These groups meet monthly to
plan special events, organize fundraisers and develop school
improvement goals. They are a vital and essential asset to our
continued success. Some longtime activities and traditions at Hatherly
School include: Family Pizza or Ice Cream Nights, Hatherly Holiday
Breakfast, Hatherly Hoopla Fair, and Ship Shape Day.
Hatherly
Elementary School is a nurturing, child-centered environment in which
all of its members contribute to lifelong learning. These core values
are encapsulated in our school acronym: Honest Achievers Trying Hard Everyday Resulting in Lasting Yearlong and lifelong progress.
